The exhibition The World of Vanet and Christy presents the work of the French Bulgarian professional artists, mother and daughter, Ivanka Petrova-Tzekov aka Vanet and Christine Tzekova aka Christy. It's the occasion to celebrate 56 years since the advent of their world of imagination, freedom and fantasy.
With her first solo exhibition in 1967 Vanet became known as "Vanya - the child prodigy"in Sofia. The Bulgarian cinematography created then the film "The Little Artist and the Big Ones". In love with the French language, Vanet's interest in modern art led her to Paris. Born in a small room on Pigalle street, Christine grew up at the foot of Montmartre. Vanet is inspired by the human figure in festive clothes, whereas Christine very quickly turns to abstract art, which gives her more freedom to express her thoughts and feelings.
Vanet and Christy have been working together on artistic events for many years. In 2013 they founded their association Paris-Vanet-Art. Their last exhibition Bulgarian Letters in Paris dedicated to the Cyrillic alphabet, took place in November and December 2022.
In the 1960s, the media and the public were asking themselves how long this optimistic world would last, how it would be preserved and how it would evolve. "Sunshine for the Freezing Sparrows" is one of the published articles which underlines the radiating warmth of an artistic world. Today, the torch is carried by Christine, who has no intentions of abandoning it because more than ever, people need love, care and resilience.
The exhibition can be visited from 18 to 30 September in the Sofia City Library.
